I have been staying in Prescott helping out
Felicia for quite some time now, much longer than I first anticipated. It’s been fun, Felicia and I had a good time
catching up but now that’s she’s more settled in the area and feeling more
comfortable in her new apartment, it was time for me to hit the road…
I met several people from the apartment
complex she was in during the time I was there. Ray (I hope I have his name
right, I can’t seem to remember names…
lol) was living next door with his wife and their beautiful daughter who
is in the toddler stages of life. They
would be out walking or hanging out on their deck and we would strike up a
conversation. Once he found out that I
was a nomad living in my van he told me that was his dream as well, but with
the addition of the new family member, it would have to be put on hold for a
while. He did come over one day and I
showed him the van setup. He’s been
suggesting places that I might want to check out when I left and Jerome was one
of his picks. Jerome was only about an
hour away and although it was kind of in the opposite direction that I planned
to go, I decided to make the trip to check it out…
The town of Jerome lies about halfway between
Prescott and Flagstaff AZ, and is only about 30 miles away from Sedona. It’s beautifully nestled high up in the
mountains and the views are just incredible.
Jerome was a booming copper mining town in it’s day and there are still
many mining relics and historical sites preserved and on display for the
public. There’s even an ancient pueblo
located in the Tazigoot National Monument area you can visit in the nearby town
of Clarksdale. As I point out in the
video, Jerome seems to be like a downsize version of Sedona. Lots of shops, art museums, restaurants,
historical sites, great for a day or two of walking and browsing, and it’s very
popular…
Jerome pictures…
I didn’t get out and spend time in Jerome,
it’s interesting but not really my thing, however I really enjoy experiencing
new places and I think this is a bit of a hidden jewel. I made the rounds
through town a few times, trying to catch some of the more interesting elements
of the area to post here on my blog, and then I headed back down the mountain
to pick up the highway that would take me towards the north west…
Bonus video…
On the way back from Jerome I was making a
selfie video when a motorcycle passed by_ me with this cute little black dog
sitting on top of his high seat, right behind the driver. I tried to spin the camera around but I
wasn’t able to capture just how cute this was in person, but hopefully you can
see enough to enjoy. The dog was a
small flat nosed breed with white markings, and it seemed to be so happy as it
sat up tall as it could face to the wind.
What you probably can’t see in the video is that this adorable pup had
on a pair of wrap around sunglasses with
tongue hanging out, I wish I could have captured that in the video, it was so
cute!
Much love, much peace…
